Albinism

Albinism is a genetic disease and hereditary characterized by the absence of pigment. The skin is very white and the iris is pink, hair, eyebrows and eyelashes are white. This disease is also found in some animals.

The albino (person with the disease) has poor vision and sensitive skin. He must protect his eyes and skin from the sun to avoid skin cancer.

Sometimes albinism occurs in the eyes, this is called ocular albinism. The color of the skin and hair may be lighter, but not white as in the person with albinism Oculocutaneous.

The sun is the enemy of the albino. He shields his eyes with colored lenses that can filter out UV and protects the skin using a cream with high protection (60-100) against the sun. He wears long sleeves, long pants. There are special clothing with a protective index of over 50.

The albino meets with a doctor on a regular basis to screen for cancer of the skin.
