Aneurism

An aneurysm is a localized thinning of the wall of an artery. The blood pressure causes dilation of artery in the shaped of a balloon. There is risk of rupture leading to hemorrhage in the brain and then the stroke.

L’anévrisme est un amincissement localisé de la paroi d'une artère. La pression du sang provoque une dilatation en forme de ballon. Il y a risque de rupture entraînant une hémorragie ; au cerveau, c'est l'accident vasculaire cérébral.

The aneurysm may be caused by the accumulation of deposit which weakens the wall. Some aneurysms, mycotic say, are caused by bacteria or fungus.

The aneurysm is often found in the aorta in the abdomen. There are also aneurysms of the brain and the thorax.

The aneurysm is usually not painful and is usually detected by chance during an examination.

The brain aneurysm can sometimes cause symptoms such as vision disorders, tremors and facial pain. A thoracic aneurysm may cause (rarely) pain in chest, wheezing or difficulty swallowing. The abdominal aneurysm causes pain in the upper abdomen or lower back.

When still a small aneurysm is found, no action is taken. A regular review verifies evolution. If intervention becomes necessary, the dilated part is replaced by a synthetic tube or covered with a sheath.

To forestall or prevent the rupture of an aneurysm, it is recommended among others to stop smoking, exercise, eat less salt and blood pressure monitor.
