Anxiety

Anxiety is characterized by intense restlessness, a feeling of insecurity to a situation which is clearly not a threat, contrary to the fear that occurs as a result of an event truly threatening.

The causes of anxiety are many. It can occur after a heart attack or malfunction of the thyroid gland. It can be a symptom of a nervous breakdown. Some medications can cause anxiety.

Anxiety is ''normal'' when the subject feels anxiety in the specific events: the anxiety experienced before an exam or a job application. The anxiety in this case is beneficial in the sense that the person is notified of the problem and is preparing accordingly.

Anxiety is abnormal when there is no apparent reason to fear a future event or it is permanent (GAD). Abnormal anxiety is often associated with neurotic disorders. Often the subject, depressed, tries to relieve his anxiety by using drugs, alcohol or drugs.

Sometimes anxiety causes panic attack whose main symptoms are sweating, tremors, dizziness or the sensation of breathlessness.

A doctor can help relieve anxiety by suggesting relaxation methods. Drugs may accompany the treatment according to the importance of anxiety. In some cases, the doctor refers patient to a psychotherapist.
