This small ulcer may arise as a result of an injury caused by a sharp food, brushing teeth or forceful biting of lips. It may also be a symptom of a disease.
Although unpleasant and painful (burning), canker sores are harmless. The pain is usually over in less than five days and the sore heals in about ten days.
Treatment usually involves gargling the mouth with an antiseptic. In more severe cases, medication can be prescribed by the doctor.
