Contraception

Contraception is the set of methods (pill, condom ...) used to prevent fertilization. No method is 100%. These methods are reversible. Condoms (condom) is the only contraceptive to prevent a sexually transmitted disease.

There are condoms for men and women. The female condom can be installed a few hours before intercourse.

The pill is easy to use and can, in some cases, regulate menstrual cycles and reduce painful menstruation in adolescent girls. The pill is taken daily for 21 days, followed by a stop of 7 days to allow the onset of menstruation.

Other methods are the IUD, diaphragm, vaginal ring, cervical cap, injections once every few years, the progestin implant and spermicides.

Now there is an emergency contraceptive called 'morning after' pill. This pill must be taken within 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.

Sterilization

Vasectomy (male sterilization) is an irreversible method. The two channels carrying the sperm are ligated, preventing the presence of sperm in the semen.

Tubal ligation (female sterilization) is also an irreversible method. The ligation of both fallopian tubes prevents the passage of ovule into the uterus.
