Dental Abscess

The abscess is a collection of pus * forming as a result of inflammation or infection. The dental abscess, as its name suggests, is related to the teeth.

The abscess was present in the tissues surrounding the tooth root, sometimes in the tooth. It is caused by untreated tooth decay, a blow to the tooth or a broken tooth.

The gums become red and smooth in the region of infection. There is swelling. The infected area is painful. The evacuation of pus lessens the pain.

Untreated abscess can spread. The person feels fatigue, nausea and fever. The treatment is urgent.

Treatment involves draining the abscess and treat the infection with antibiotics. The tooth is treated after healing of the abscess.

PUS: liquid usually yellowish, consisting mainly of polymorphonuclear altered cellular debris and microbes.
