Diarrhea



Diarrhea is a symptom, not a disease. They say it is when there is diarrhea more than three loose stools per day. Most people have three to five diarrhea per years caused by gastroenteritis or following a visit abroad. The person suffering from diarrhea and abdominal cramps feel a slight fever.

Diarrhea can be viral or bacterial. The bacteria are usually found in food and water. Taking antibiotics also encourages the proliferation of bacteria in the digestive system and can cause diarrhea. Several other factors can cause diarrhea such as stress, alcohol abuse or intolerance to dairy products.

Diarrhea is usually harmless. Severe diarrhea causes dehydration by removing too much water and minerals needed by the body.

If the child is suffering from a virus, it is contagious and must be isolated from other children. It is important to absorb plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. The chicken noodle soup is a great way to take liquid feeding. Avoid tea and coffee which promotes the evacuation. Mild diarrhea resolves itself without specific treatment.
