Urinary incontinence is an alteration or loss of control of urine. Incontinence is caused by the malfunction of muscles, especially the sphincter that closes the outlet of the bladder. This is not a disease but a symptom of physical dysfunction.
The main causes of incontinence is pregnancy, menopause, old age ... An anatomical deformation of birth may also be the cause of incontinence. Anxiety, alcohol, certain medications or surgery are some risk factors.
Incontinence can occur during exertion (coughing, laughing). In other cases, incontinence occurs when an urgent need to urinate, the person can not reach the toilet on time. The third case of incontinence is permanent leak, there is no restraint.
Treatment involves eliminating the cause. In some cases, surgery may be necessary.
