Kidney stones (renal calculi) may form in the urinary tract. Small fragments mineral usually formed of calcium oxalate, can be found in the kidneys, bladder and ducts in the urine.
Small fragments of the size of a grain of sand, are generally painless. The pain occurs when a stone blocks the flow of urine.
The formation of stones may be caused among others by dehydration and excessive consumption of salt, calcium or vitamin D.
To treat kidney stones, we recommend bed rest and intake of large quantities of liquid. Analgesics are prescribed for pain. The stones are usually eliminated by natural means in six weeks.
