Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis or 'brittle bone disease is a disease that affects mostly people in their fifties or older. The bone becomes thinner, becomes porous and can fracture more easily. The bones of the wrist, hip and spine are those most often affected. Do not confuse osteoporosis with osteoarthritis, which is wear of the cartilage covering the ends of the bone.

Over forty, the bone starts to deteriorate slowly (about 1% per year) and becomes increasingly brittle with age. Osteoporosis affects more a person of small frame.

The abuse of cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine and excess weight increases bone fragility.

The doctor will propose a treatment to slow bone loss, accompanied by a diet high in calcium.

Calcium, vitamin D and phosphate are essential for bone health.

Calcium Sources

Dairy products, canned pink salmon with bones, almonds, pecans and walnuts in general, green vegetables, garlic, asparagus, beets, onions, fruits in general, especially apricots, pineapples, bananas, cherries, strawberries, oranges, apples, tomatoes, beans and plain yogurt.

The non-violent, such as walking and water exercise, helps maintain bone strength.

When choosing supplements, medications, diet or exercise, always consult a physician. A product of inadequate or undesirable exercises could accelerate the process of osteoporosis.
