The ovaries are two glands whose function is to produce eggs and secrete hormones. They are located on either side of the uterus. In the middle of a menstrual cycle, an egg is released and captured by the fallopian tube. The unfertilized egg will degenerate naturally.
Ovarian Cancer
Among the risk factors for ovarian cancer: be over 50 years, having a family history of breast cancer, never having used the contraceptive pill, having a late menopause, never having had any child.
Symptoms, when present, may be bleeding (bleeding outside of menstrual periods) accompanied by pain and a flow of liquid.
A vaginal touch can detect a larger ovary. The diagnosis is confirmed through an optical device.
Treatment of ovarian cancer involves the removal of it.
Ovarian Cysts
The organic cysts are usually benign tumors located on the ovary. The organic cyst must be removed to avoid complications. We take this operation to detect any possible presence of cancer.
There are also functional cysts that appears only on menstrual cycle, functional cysts are benign and are not removed by operation, it will usually disappear after a few months.
Sometimes the cysts, organic or functional, is painful.
