Overactive bladder syndrome

The overactive bladder syndrome is characterized by an urge to urinate several times a day.

This condition is usually benign, is caused by the pelvic muscles (pelvis), which contract and put pressure on the bladder. This pressure causes a feeling of bladder fullness.

The main symptoms are urinary frequency (more than eight times a day) and urgency to urinate. For some, added Incontinence (small leak) and frequent urination at night.

The treatment resulted in exercises sometimes accompanied by medication. The exercises aim to strengthen the muscles at the opening of the bladder to hold more urine and thus reduce the frequency of urination. The drugs reduce muscle spasms. Surgery is considered a last resort.

Avoid drinks and foods that increase urination such as caffeine, alcohol, salt and spices. Drink 1.5 liters of water per day not drinking two hours before bedtime. Choose light sports such as walking, cycling and swimming instead of playing tennis or jogging.
