Pharyngitis
Strep throat is a viral infection (90%) or bacterial (10%). It is characterized by inflammation of the pharynx*. Pharyngitis may also have an allergic origin. Pharyngitis occurs in two forms: acute or chronic.
Acute pharyngitis, called angina, is found at the height of the throat (the lower part of the pharynx). It is viral or bacterial.

The main symptoms are dry cough, sore throat, runny nose, difficulty swallowing and fever.
The treatment for a viral infection of the pharynx is to reduce fever and relieve symptoms. When the infection from a bacterium (confirmed by a levy), pharyngitis is treated with antibiotics, usually penicillin.
