The skin blister is a small swelling under the skin. The outer layer of the epidermis is raised to form a bubble filled with serous fluid (liquid).
The main cause of the blister is prolonged friction. Handling a tool without wearing gloves may, by friction, create a light blister. The blister appears on a foot normally because of an ill-fitting shoes or too rigid, favoring the friction.
The blister can also be caused by a burn, a sunburn or a disease.
The friction or burns stretch the outer layer of skin creating a bubble. A transparent liquid inflates the bubble. The elevated skin is dead. It is best to leave the bubble because the dead skin and the liquid protect from the infection. If the bubble is punctured, it is important to disinfect the swelling regularly to avoid infection.
If after a few hours, instead of diminishing, the bubble increases, there is presence of redness, pain becomes stronger or occurs an unusual symptom, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
