Spasmophilia is a condition characterized by muscle and nerve excitation exaggerated. During a panic attack, it is manifested by attacks of restlessness, tingling, cramping.
Spasmophilia is caused by nervous tension (stress, anxiety, arousal) mismanaged. A crisis occurs even when there is no apparent reason, justified such a concern.
Lack of sleep contributes to cause false signals distressing. Stimulants like tobacco, alcohol and coffee are also aggravating factors.
During a crisis, the choking sensation requires the person to breathe rapidly, causing hyperventilation. Hyperventilation contributes to increased stress, which increases the symptoms.
To counteract the hyperventilation, the person breathes into a bag, thereby limiting the loss of CO2 in order to regain normal breathing. This technique should be used only on doctor's advice. Hyperventilation caused by another phenomenon, could actually be beneficial.
Treatment may involve taking magnesium supplements or calcium and, sometimes, to taking antidepressants. Psychotherapy is generally desirable. Exercise and relaxation sessions can only be beneficial.
