The streptococcus is a bacterium whose species produce serious infections. The human body contains streptococci in the lungs, gastrointestinal tract and urinary tract, these streptococci are part of the normal flora of humans but can cause an infection.
Several infections such as pharyngitis, rheumatism, urinary infections, meningitis caused by streptococcus.
The transmission of the bacteria is from person to person through the air, however, the streptococci does not survive long outside the human body.
The pneumococcus, a type of streptococcus is responsible for several infections, including pneumonia. This bacterium is destroyed among others with penicillin. Since 1977, there was resistance to penicillin in some pneumococci.
It is recommended for the elderly and other vulnerable people to guard the pneumococcal vaccine.
