Stye

A stye is an infection usually caused by harmless bacteria living on the skin and mucous membranes. There are two types of stye. The external sty is an infection of the glands at the base of the lashes while the internal stye, take longer to heal lies within the eyelid.

We often associate the onset of the sty at a time of stress. More rarely, a stye occurs when an eye disease such as blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids. The makeup of poor quality or poorly cleaned the lenses can encourage the emergence of a stye.

The symptoms of a stye are redness and slight pain in the eyelid followed by swelling of the eyelid. The eye may become tearful and angry.

We can treat the stye with hot compresses for ten minutes, four times a day. A doctor or pharmacist can advise you use an antibiotic ointment. Good hygiene is essential. Wash eyes and hands regularly and do not rub your eyes.

Usually external stye drains after few days. The meibomianitis sometimes requires the intervention of a surgeon. If the stye persists after two weeks, consult a doctor.
