Tourette syndrome

The syndrome of Gilles de la Tourette is a neurological disorder. The disease is characterized by uncontrollable twitching, involuntary movements. This disease is usually hereditary but the genes responsible for the syndrome remain unknown.

The tick is the most common eye blinking. Then the grimace, shrug of the shoulders or head movements. Other tics are more like a normal gesture as, for example, rubbing the nose or touch others.

In rarer cases, the syndrome can cause vocal tics such vulgar words or repeating words of others.

The majority of people with the syndrome control their tics temporarily. However, as sneezing, the tic occurs sooner or later.

In people with mild tics, the syndrome is fading with time. For cases heavier, an effective drug against the syndrome is prescribed.
