Urticaria

Urticaria is a skin condition caused by an allergy, insect bites, sun exposure or exposure to a sudden drop in temperature.

The allergy can be caused by a drug, food, animal or chemical. It is not uncommon to see the hives appear after medical treatment. Some products such as cosmetics or soaps may be allergens. In the latter case, simply try another product.

Swelling often causing itching spread on the skin. Skin inflammation is in the form of red rashes. The rash lasts from one week to one month and leaves no scars. In rare cases, hives may last for several years. Hives can be chronic in some people.

Itching is relieved by antihistamines. Other drugs may be used to relieve inflammation.

When urticaria is chronic, the cause is sometimes easier to identify.
