Verneuil's disease is a chronic dermatological condition. The condition occurs in the form of nodules (bumps), abscesses (pus-cluster) and sometimes pustules (pus-containing bubbles) in the groin, armpits, under breasts, buttocks ... The disease can affect one or more regions of the body.
The cause is not really known. The occlusion of the sweat glands (glands that produce sweat) promotes the onset of the disease. The folds of the skin and tight clothing contribute to the occlusion.
At the peak of the disease, the smell (pus), the oozing lesions and pain due to friction become a handicap. In some cases, the abscess may reach the size of a ping-pong.
Good hygiene helps prevent disease Verneuil. It should, as far as possible, keep the body dry areas conducive to sweating. Also avoid prolonged immobility, the movement can ventilate areas where the skin is enclosed by the folds.
Although it is not an infectious disease, it happens that an infection occurs. Antibiotics are used for topical treatment for abscesses and pustules.
When the treatment is not effective, a little surgery can drain the abscess and relieve the patient. The removal of the affected tissue is sometimes necessary. The surgery does not prevent a recurrence.
